3rd June 2007 - Welcome!
A successful open weekend was held on the nineteenth and twentieth of May. On the nineteenth of June, twenty six enthusiasts from a Gosforth Gardening Club visited the gardens and gallery followed by tea served within the Hall itself.
We are very pleased to announce that on Saturday, July 28th and Sunday July 29th the gardens will be opened on behalf of the National Gardens Scheme, with proceeds being donated to various charities. This will be our first year as members of the NGS. Cream Teas will be available in the tea tent. There may also be accompanied viewing of the ruins (a dovecote and summerhouse). Open 11am until 5pm. Admission £2.50 for adults.
On Thursday 6th and Friday 7th of September, Dunningwell Hall will once again participate in the English Heritage open Days that run in the locality for a full four days (6th-9th). Last year we discussed the possibility of one of our ponds, the largest, being a very old flax pond. There is some doubt about this now. The dove cote and summerhouse will be available to view and photograph. There was much debate last year about these constructions and how to repair them. A considerable amount of research was conducted regarding the use of the dove cote and methods of culling and cooking of the birds. An extra element of the viewing will be the pet cemetery with inscribed headstones. There will be a small quiz for children on what they have seen.
